My journey to founding Safe Sleep Pros began long before I entered the fields of science, healthcare, or public health.
Growing up, I was often entrusted with caring for younger siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews. From an early age, I understood that caring for a child was both a privilege and a profound responsibility. Those experiences nurtured my love for children and my desire to ensure their well-being.
Outside of my care, a nephew I loved dearly passed away. It was later understood that his passing was sleep related. Even thought it was not my fault, I felt deeply responsible. Somehow, the question, "how could this have been prevented?" would not leave me.
In the years that followed, I found myself asking difficult questions. Could greater awareness have made a difference? How many families were unaware of safe sleep recommendations? How could caregivers be better equipped with information that might help protect the babies they love?
Those questions became the foundation of my life's work.
Driven by a desire to understand and improve health outcomes for children and families, I pursued a career in science and public health. After completing my education, I worked in a public health laboratory supporting maternal and infant health programs. My work included monitoring infants born to mothers living with HIV, helping ensure early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of transmission. Equally important was the opportunity to educate and support mothers as they navigated complex healthcare challenges while caring for their children.
When I later relocated to the United States, my passion for supporting families continued to grow. Through newborn care and family support services, I worked closely with parents during one of the most vulnerable and transformative periods of their lives. I provided guidance on infant care, feeding routines, sleep schedules, and safe sleep practices, helping families build confidence while caring for their newborns.
My commitment to infant safety also led me to become a Safe Sleep Ambassador, further strengthening my dedication to educating families and communities about evidence-based safe sleep practices.
Through Safe Sleep Pros, I have the privilege of extending this work into the community. Our organization focuses on reaching families, caregivers, and underserved communities with life-saving sleep education, particularly in neighborhoods where infant mortality rates remain disproportionately high. We believe that every family deserves access to trusted information, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, language, or zip code.
Safe Sleep Pros was founded on a simple but powerful belief: education saves lives.
What began as a deeply personal loss has become a lifelong mission to empower caregivers, reduce preventable sleep-related infant deaths, and help ensure that every baby has the safest possible start in life.
The memory of my nephew continues to inspire this work every day, reminding me that behind every statistic is a child, a family, and a future worth protecting.
A world where every caregiver is informed, every community is empowered, and every baby has the safest possible start in life.
To reduce preventable sleep-related infant deaths through education, advocacy, community engagement, and equitable access to evidence-based safe sleep information.
